Spring judge training resources are up!

Every semester we update our judge training packet to reflect the specific topics being discussed by our students each semester - this Spring, students will be debating the merits of an expanded offshore fish farming industry. If you plan on volunteering as a judge or are a coach who is training judges in advance, be sure to check out the quick reference guides on our wiki page!   .

DUDA partners with National Speech and Debate Association!

The National Speech and Debate Association is partnering with Dallas Urban Debate to provide additional support to students and coaches. Dallas Urban Debate students and coaches will be able to access invaluable resources such as webinars, textbooks, videos, and evidence updates.

Award-winning coaches mentor Dallas Urban Debaters!

This weekend, 50 students from A Maceo New Tech, Booker T. Washington, Hillcrest, James Madison, Kimball, North Dallas, Samuell, Seagoville, and Skyline convened at Hulcy to prepare for the Spring cross-examination debate topic: whether or not the US should invest in expanded offshore fish production.

Help us break a participation record at our season opener!

Our first tournament of the year has picked up a last-minute wave of applicants from new teams – we’re now looking at the possibility of hosting a record 200+ students from 12 schools at our season opener this Saturday (9/20)! However, to give all of these bright students the chance to debate, we need at least 10 more judges. Our tournament will be held at Hulcy Middle School (9339 South Polk Street, 75232), and we will host rounds at: 10:00am, 12:30pm, and 2:15pm.

Sunset senior, Victor Martinez, on his summer at Dartmouth

Victor Martinez, a rising senior at Sunset High School, attended the Debate Institutes at Dartmouth (DDI) for almost five weeks on a full scholarship through a partnership between DUDA and the DDI.   Victor has been debating for three years now, and says he picked up a slew of useful skills at the DDI - including how to research effectively and be a team player.

Save the date: North Texas Giving Day is September 18th!

North Texas Giving Day is an online giving event that provides nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure to - and start relationships with - new donors, as well as for people in North Texas to come together to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits. Dallas Urban Debate is one of the nonprofits looking to raise money for its programs.
