Because of debate, I have been able to see situations from different perspectives and ended my closed minded personality over time while in Dallas Urban Debate Alliance. It has forced me to second think some of the ideals I carry, and I feel that, ultimately, it is very beneficial. Debate as an organizational sport, is great in and of itself. Normally teenagers debate and argue about irrelevant things such as style and personal insults. But Policy Debate has taught me there is much more important topics that need to be discussed; it is the most civilized way to educate, discuss, and enrich ideals. Also, as a future first generation college student in my family, it has been a great informational source about college, and has pushed me to pursue more and more towards attending college.
